"The science is clear, early adversity dramatically affects health across a lifetime...The single most important thing we need today is the courage to look this problem in the face and say this is real and this is all of us."
— Dr. Nadine Burke Harris - TEDMED 2014

"RESILIENCE: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope"
Researchers have recently discovered a dangerous biological syndrome caused by abuse and neglect during childhood. Toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death. Resilience chronicles the dawn of a movement that is determined to fight back.

"Paper Tigers"
When: TBA
Time: TBA
Where: TBA
To register: No upcoming screenings at this time.
Paper Tigers follows 6 at-risk teens in a Washington high school and shows how one school, inspired by the ACES study, implemented a trauma-sensitive program. As the film illustrates, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to reach these vulnerable members of our communities but great success can transpire when a community comes together with a common goal.
Paper Tigers is available for purchase to the general public. Please check the Paper Tigers Website for purchasing instructions.
Trauma-Informed Systems (TIS) 101 Training
Across the Bay Area, champions are coming together to share experiences and knowledge in an effort to heal our stress-impacted public health systems. Bay Area county representatives from cross-sector departments (juvenile justice, child welfare, behavioral health, etc.) have joined us to build regional capacity for this project called the Trauma Informed Systems (TIS) 101.
The TIS 101 is, fundamentally, a systems change model. It begins with a foundational 3.5 hour training to understand how trauma and stress impact developing bodies and brains, communities, organizations and systems. Unlike other trainings, this integrated model brings a cross-section of our workforce (janitors, counselors, administrative supports, clinical staff, leadership, etc.)
To date, in the Bay Area region, we have trained nearly 11,000 employees in our Bay Area workforce.
If you have questions about Trauma-Transformed Systems or want to bring a training to your community or organization, please fill out the Trauma Training Request Form. Please scan and e-mail your completed form to Maretta Juarez, LCSW, T² Trauma Transformed Operations Coordinator, [email protected].
